"I have been taking private Pilates lessons since 2003. Of the eight instructors I have had over the years, Nanette is the most conscientious instructor I have had. Not only does she always personalize my lessons to my body and needs, she also is well trained for those of us who have osteoporosis."

“Pilates with Nanette makes a significant difference in my health, movement, and the quality of my life. Nanette wears many hats: Pilates Expert, Teacher, Guide, Coach, Partner, Cheerleader, and Problem Solver. She is a dedicated professional who is patient, compassionate, and nonjudgmental. Nanette is fully present during our interactive sessions, which enables her to focus, guide, and adapt to my specific needs and challenges at any given moment. Our time together is productive, positive, and fun. She frequently checks in with me to ensure that we’re on track and safely addressing my specific issues. She actively listens and provides clear instruction and options that serve as workarounds for my specific challenges; her feedback supports continual fine tuning and encourages me to incrementally stretch beyond my perceived limits. I fully trust and treasure Nanette’s expertise, guidance, and feedback, and the results speak volumes—increased strength, improved mobility, and ability to function pain free. “At 70, it is challenging to improve my fitness without injury. Nanette has done a great job modifying Pilates moves to protect my neck, knees, and lower back while still pushing me to improve my strength and flexibility. When I started having difficulties with vertigo, she used her props and expertise to keep me fit until the issue resolved. I so appreciate her one-on-one attention!”

“Over the many years that I have been practicing Pilates, I have come to realize that it is what sustaines me, both physically and mentally. Most importantly, by working with Nanette, she has been able expand and customize Pilates techniques to change with the needs and sometimes, limitations of my body as I have aged. When I have had surgery or an injury she does extensive research to introduce ways to protect me while I’m healing, but to also strengthen me at the same time. Pilates with Nanette is a priority in my day, my week, my life.”

FAQS and Myths
-
What exactly is Pilates?Joseph Pilates developed his eponymous movement modality to rehabilitate German soldiers in WWI internment camps. Its guiding principle is to enhance mind-body awareness by emphasizing breath and alignment during movement. It was designed to improve and restore core strength, spinal mobility, and mobility and stability for all muscles and joints, in all planes of motion. All fitness pursuits benefit from this approach and Pilates has a proven track record of enhancing performance for golfers, dancers, musicians, hockey players, skiers, runners and anyone in-between.

Isn't it just a fitness fad?Far from being a fitness fad, Pilates endures as one of the most inclusive yet challenging movement modalities ever developed. It continues to go be widely recommended by physical therapists and sports medicine professionals. The discipline evolves by drawing on evidence-based developments in pain science, movement science, sports medicine, and other fields of research.

Pilates is too hard, I did a mat class once and couldn't keep up.While group classes can be a wonderful and fun introduction to Pilates, many people have their first encounter in a group setting where skill levels vary widely and adequate individual attention is not always possible, leaving novices or those with contra-indications overwhelmed. The reality is that the body awareness and core strength acquired through Pilates is built up gradually. Private instructors are uniquely positioned to make all the required modifications and progressions to your sessions, ensuring you never feel thrown in the deep end but remain motivated and challenged.
